Windows 10 May 2019 Update – Microsoft advises users to run the latest versions of the games

Microsoft made the May 2019 Update available through the Release Preview ring to anyone interested in using the new version. However, when attempting to install version 1903 on their machines, some users reported seeing an "This PC can not be upgraded" alert. They also confirmed that after removing games that use the anti-cheat software, they were able to upgrade to the new version. Version 1903 has been experiencing problems with these games for quite some time now, and while Microsoft said earlier that the problem was solved by game makers providing fixes, some users still have the problem.

Most game makers have patches released ; run the latest versions to prevent crashes and upgrade problems

While some users are unable to upgrade to the latest version, others also experience crashes once Windows 10 May 2019 Update has been installed. In a blog post today while announcing a new Windows 10 version 2020 Preview Build, Microsoft acknowledged that the problems are caused by the older versions of anti-cheat software used with games. "We work with partners to update their software with a fix, and most games have released patches to prevent PCs from experiencing this problem," Microsoft said. The Windows maker also recommended that "to minimize the likelihood of running into this issue, please make sure you run the latest version of your games before trying to update the operating system." The company added that it works with anti-cheat and game developers to avoid similar problems with Windows 10 20H1. Before installing Windows 10 May 2019 Update, users are advised to make sure they have the latest version of the games.

The May 2019 Update is not yet available for public use. While anyone can sign up with the ring of the Release Preview and get their hands on the latest version, these problems will arise in the coming weeks. Once addressed, Microsoft will push 1903 to everyone to ensure that the next version of Windows 10 does not affect user experience such as the October 2018 Update.
